Die Grafik zeigt die monatliche Entwicklung der genehmigten, neu zu errichtenden Wohnfläche in Wohn- und Nichtwohngebäuden ,, angefangen mit dem Berichtsjahr 2018.

Obwohl im betrachteten Zeitraum die Anzahl der neu genehmigten Wohnungen in Mehrfamilienhäusern den größten Anteil am Neubau in Deutschland ausmachte, spiegelte sich das bei der Betrachtung der genehmigten neu zu errichtenden Wohnfläche bis Ende des Berichtsjahres 2022 nicht wieder. Den Großteil der genehmigten Wohnfläche in diesen Jahren machten die Ein-  und Zweifamilienhäuser aus. Ein Grund dafür ist, dass im klassischen Eigenheimbau mehr Wohnfläche pro Wohnung geplant wird als im Geschosswohnungsbau. Die Anzahl der genehmigten Wohnfläche in Wohnheimen und Nichtwohngebäuden fiel dabei weniger ins Gewicht.
